Port Elliot Obelisk

Visited on Tuesday 25th February. We stopped off to check out the Obelisk and some amazing views of the coast there. Well worth stopping to have a look.

If South Australian history interests you, this is a good place to visit.

It is easy to imagine how well a marker here on top of the cliff, visible far out towards the sea and to approaching vessels, would have helped to increase marine safety when approaching landfall.

Nice views from lookout

The obelisk is on Freeman’s Nob looking out over Horseshoe Bay and Rocks Bay. The obelisk itself isn’t anything spectacular. It is used as a marker for ships before the railways came through. From the lookout you can see Horseshoe Bay which is a beautiful view of a crescent shaped bay with a small breakwater. The Rocks Bay is a conglomerate of rocks where the waves were crashing up against the rocks giving some great views. Worthwhile having a look - great photo shots.
