A beautiful natural area full of trails

The small Kalamunda Nation Park has several trails running through it which can be started from various points using, for example, the car parks at the end of Crescent Rd or Fern Rd or Spring Rd. Many of these trails present moderate difficulty with some ascents and descents. The easiest and most suitable way for everyone to visit the park is to enter from Schipp Rd. Schipp Rd is an unsealed road of which you can only travel about 400m because a metal bar does not allow cars to proceed further. Immediately before the barrier there is a parking area while other small places to park are present along this short section of Schipp Rd accessible to all types of cars. No fees apply to enter the park while a big sign clearly says "Please leave your pets at home”. You then proceed walking along the Schipp Rd which follows the course of the Piesse Brook, a tributary of the Helena River, with a few small bridges on the way. The landscape is characterized by large bare granite gray rocks only partially covered by the surrounding vegetation, while yellow and white prevail among the flowers. It is an easy and pleasant walk, suitable for everyone, which leads in about 1.5 km to the Rocky Pool. On weekends this trail is very popular (even among bikers) and therefore not very suitable for observing animals, but the opportunities to photograph flowers and sections of the small stream with its transparent water are excellent. After Rocky Pool it is possible to continue on Schipp Rd or to follow one of the uncrowded fire roads. So we did. Among the birds of the bush the easiest to observe are the parrots of which we have seen short-billed black cockatoo (Zanda latirostris), red-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksia), galah (Eolophus roseicapilla) and Australian ringneck parrot (Barnardius zonarius). Along the Schipp Rd there are some explanatory trail signs that describe the flora and fauna of the park suggesting a visit aimed to observe small marsupials in the dark hours. A very beautiful natural area full of trails (some of which are very long) suitable for both relaxing walks and physical exercise.

Good walk trails

Love this National Park with so many great trails to walk, amazing wildflowers during late winter, early spring. You can walk a bit of the Bibbulmun track, the Rocky Pool walk is also great.
